聖母的聖像畫以聖母大聖殿 Santa Maria Maggiore 的聖像畫最為著名，因為信友特別的喜愛，且與城市有著密切關係, 因此它得到「羅馬人的救贖」的稱號。保祿六世，在宣布童貞聖母是整個教會的母親之後，經常在這張聖像畫前祈禱。在 2000年8月羅馬聖母大殿的這幅聖像畫，也來到在義大利 Tor Vergata 舉行世界青年日的活動場地，教宗若望保祿二世希望將世界的年輕人奉獻給最有權勢的母親，在善導之母的帶領下走向基督。
The best known of the icons of Our Lady goes to the one of Basilica of St Mary Major (Santa Maria Maggiore), because faithful love it the most, and it also has a special bonding with the city of Rome. Therefore, it has the title of “Salvation of the people of Rome (Salus populi Romani)”, and the icon has been recently restored. After announcing the Blessed Virgin is the Mother of the Church, Pope Paul VI has always been praying in front of this icon. In August 2000, this icon from Basilica of St Mary Major also travelled to Tor Vergata, where the World Youth Day was held. At that time, Pope John Paul II hoped to consecrate all young people to the most powerful mother, and go to Christ to whom the Mother of God Hodegetria points.
